EXPERIENCE
Liz has been a dental hygienist for over 20 years! You can be confident that you are recieving your dental hygiene treatment from a professional that is experienced and knowledgeable in the dental field. You can also rest assured that you will have the same dental hygienist at each visit, someone who knows your history and understands your preferences!
DIRECT BILLING
We bill directly to your insurance company so you don't have any up front costs. If you don't have insurance, please do not hesitate to ask us about our fees.
ENVIRONMENT
We are not located in a traditional dental office setting. We are in a Wellness Centre in Cobourg. The environment is calm and relaxing. No drills or needles and no dental smells or sounds! If you have dental anxiety, this may help you feel more relaxed.
KNOWLEDGE
We understand the "mouth-body connection". We look at each person as a whole, not just anther set of teeth. We take many things into consideration when providing treatment and our goal is to not only help you improve your oral health, but your overall health as well.
WHAT ABOUT THE DENTIST?
Our clients come see us for their preventive care, then they see their dentist separately as often as required for their checkups, x-rays and restorative dental care (fillings, etc.). You can stay with your current dentist, or if you don't already have one, we can refer you to a wonderful dentist in the area!

At Local Roots Dental Hygiene, each service is tailored to you as an individual.
Oral Assessments
Your first visit at Local Roots Dental Hygiene will begin with a comprehensive dental hygiene assessment. Your dental hygienist will review your medical and dental history, examine your head and neck, provide a screening for oral cancer and assess your mouth, tooth by tooth.
Scaling/Debridement (Teeth Cleaning)
Visit us for regular dental cleanings/preventive dental care and visit your dentist separately for exams, x-rays and treatment as required. Scaling is the removal of hard and soft bacterial deposits (biofilm and calculus) from the teeth. The buildup of these deposits is the main cause of periodontal (gum) disease and other health problems.
Polishing/Stain Removal
Polishing is the removal of stains by using a soft rubber cup and a paste. Polishing will remove superficial stains from the teeth that are commonly caused by coffee, tea, red wine and smoking. For more stubborn stains, we offer air polishing service which involves the use of a combination of baking soda and water under pressure.
Fluoride Treatments
Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and sugars in the mouth. It also can help with remineralization of tooth enamel.
For those who prefer to avoid fluoride, we can offer alternative, fluoride-free products!
Desensitizing
Sometimes you need the assistance of a dental professional to desensitize your teeth. We can apply a thin layer of a fluoride varnish or another type of desensitizing agent to your enamel which will help reduce teeth sensitivity and stop the transmission to your nerves causing pain.
Teeth Whitening
If you are looking for whiter, brighter teeth with little to no sensitivity, Local Roots Dental Hygiene offers many options depending on your needs. We use Wicked White Professional tooth whitening products for both in-office and at home.
*assessment by a dental hygienist is required prior to whitening to ensure you are a candidate.
